Introducing a new Research Internship Student of Bio2Q
We are delighted to welcome Mr. Syed Ali Raza Naqvi as a Research Internship Student of Bio2Q.
”Greetings!
I am Syed Ali Raza Naqvi, a bioinformatician and Master’s student in Artificial Intelligence at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan. I will be joining Bio2Q as a research intern in Dr. Takahiko Koyama’s lab.
My academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics from COMSATS University Islamabad, where I graduated with a Bronze Medal for academic excellence. I was then awarded the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Canada, where I worked under Saad Bin Ahmed at the Image and Pattern Identification Research Lab (IAPI-RL) on glaucoma detection using deep learning and explainable AI.
My current Master’s thesis explores multi-modal histopathology imaging and genomics to understand which cancers benefit from combining imaging and genomic modalities and which cancers can be effectively studied using only one of them. This work has deepened my interest in cancer genomics, computational pathology, multi-modal AI, and single cell RNA sequence analysis.
What drew me to Bio2Q is the opportunity to work at the intersection of AI and genomics, particularly in the area of genomic foundational models. I am eager to learn quantum computing based techniques to tackle genomics related problems, and Koyama Lab feels like exactly the right place to grow in this direction. Looking ahead, I hope to pursue a PhD in Japan focusing on genomic foundational models, computational pathology, and single cell analysis.
Coming to Japan for the first time is something I am genuinely looking forward to. Japan has always fascinated me for its unique blend of rich culture, technological advancement, and natural beauty. And honestly, years of watching anime have only made me more curious about experiencing Japanese life firsthand.
Outside of research, I enjoy taking long walks, getting immersed in a good anime series, and keeping up with the latest developments in AI.
I look forward to learning, contributing, and growing at Bio2Q!”
