Publication is an integral facet of the research enterprise, but the publication process can seem like a black box. This seminar will aim to demystify scientific publishing by covering the ins and outs of the job of a journal editor, what editors are looking for when assessing submissions, with a focus on microbiome studies, how to select the right venue for your work from among the titles offered at the Nature Portfolio, and what happens behind the scenes from submission, through review and to acceptance. Though there will be an emphasis on the process at Nature and Nature Microbiology, the points covered should apply across most journals and scientific disciplines. There will be ample time for questions built in.
