WPI-Bio2Q welcomed Dr. Shingo Kajimura, its International Collaborator and Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School to Japan from July 12-30. During his stay, Dr. Kajimura gave sience talks and held individual meetings with several PIs and Jr. PIs to discuss their research.
On July 12, researchers and students of Keio University Faculty of Pharmacy, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Medicine, and WPI-Bio2Q attended the Mini-symposium at Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus.
In Part 1, titled as “Crossroads of host metabolism and microbiota”, Dr. Kajimura gave a plenary lecture on his research followed by lectures of Dr. Koji Hase, Affiliated PI of WPI-Bio2Q and Professor of Faculty of Pharmacy, and Dr. Makoto Arita, Core Director of WPI-Bio2Q and the Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy.
Part 2, Satellite Workshop on study abroad was held in Japanese inviting Mr. Satoru Araune, Project Director of Tobitate! Study Abroad Initiative, as a keynote speaker and Dr. Shiho Hirose, an alumna of Tobitate!, Dr. Yosuke Ohba, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Eita Sasaki, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Dr. Kajimura as panelists.
On July 16, WPI-Bio2Q Open Seminar “How do cells make heat?” was held at Shinanomachi Campus and Dr. Kajimura gave a talk on his cutting-edge research. Approx. 30 researchers attended the seminar, which was followed by a lively Q&A session.
