【Event Report】 Future Scientists Visit Bio2Q: Field Trip for Tokyo Gakugei University Senior High School

February 9, 2026

February 9, 2026

On February 5, 2026, the WPI-Bio2Q Research Center at Keio University hosted a science field trip for 25 first-year students from Tokyo Gakugei University Senior High School. The event began with welcoming remarks from Advanced Research Project Professor Yuzaki and Dean Takebayashi, followed by an introduction to Bio2Q’s interdisciplinary research by Project Professor Sampetrean.

Students divided into groups to visit five diverse laboratories. They explored cutting-edge topics including depression treatments using mouse models (Tanaka Lab), synaptic networks (Yuzaki Lab), and “organoids” for regenerative medicine (Sato Lab). In the structural biology unit (Suzuki & Shihoya Labs), students observed molecular structures via cryo-electron microscopy. Finally, they learned about the relationship between brain tumors and the body’s environment (Sampetrean Lab).

The visit concluded with an engaging Q&A session where students asked insightful questions about medical research careers. This program provided a valuable opportunity for young students to witness high-level science firsthand and envision their futures as researchers. The day ended successfully with a commemorative group photo.
