New Research Internship Student- Mr. Maximilian Drees

October 31, 2025

Introducing a new Research Internship Student of Bio2Q

We are delighted to welcome Mr. Maximilian Drees as a Research Internship Student of Bio2Q.

“Hello everyone,
My name is Maximilian Drees, and I’m thrilled to join Bio2Q for an eight-week internship in the Ishigaki Lab. Currently, I’m a fifth-semester undergraduate student in Quantitative Biology at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany. My studies focus on mathematical modeling, data science and bioinformatics equipping me with the analytical skills required to explore biological systems.
Alongside my studies, I work as a tutor for the module “Cell Bioenergetics”, which covers the thermodynamic foundations of biological processes. I am responsible for explaining and correcting the weekly exercises that the students need to submit throughout the module. Additionally, I am involved in an ongoing experiment at the Institute of Synthetic Biology, focused on the design of synthetic promoters.
While my research background has mainly been in plant biology, I am excited to advance into the field of human and medical genetics, where I hope to apply computational approaches to understand disease mechanisms and improve health outcomes.
At the Ishigaki Lab, I am currently analyzing large-scale single-cell RNA sequencing data from rheumatoid arthritis patients. Through this experience, I hope to deepen my computational biology skills, gain experience in human genetics, and contribute to ongoing medical research.
I am excited to learn, collaborate, and contribute to the Bio2Q community during my time here.”
