Introducing new member of Bio2Q
We are excited to welcome Dr. Amrita Mishra as a Postdoctoral Intern at Bio-1 Core of Bio2Q.
”Hello! My name is Amrita Mishra, and I am from India.
My research journey began during my Ph.D. in Immunology at the National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune, where I became fascinated by how different immune cells communicate and work together to maintain tissue homeostasis. As my work progressed, I developed a strong interest in the connection between the nervous and immune systems. My Ph.D. focused on understanding how stress-induced neuroimmune signaling, particularly through the neurotransmitter Substance P, influences CD4⁺ T-cell responses and contributes to intestinal inflammation in inflammatory bowel disease. This experience made me realize how closely our immune system is connected to our daily lives and overall health.
After my Ph.D., I completed a year of postdoctoral training at Columbia University Irving
Medical Center, where my research shifted toward the gut microbiota and mucosal immunity.
There, I learned how microbial communities shape immune cell function and how changes in the
microbiota can influence both health and disease. This experience strengthened my interest in
understanding the complex interactions between the immune system, microbiota, and the
environment.
What drew me to Bio2Q is its vision of bringing together researchers from different disciplines
to better understand complex biological systems. I am particularly excited to explore how the gut
microbiota interacts with Type 1 regulatory T (Tr1) cells and contributes to maintaining immune
homeostasis. I look forward to learning new approaches, broadening my scientific perspective,
and collaborating with researchers from diverse backgrounds.
I am also looking forward to experiencing Japan, its culture, and its way of life. I am especially
excited to learn from the research environment here and to interact with researchers from
different backgrounds. I also hope to explore the natural beauty of Japan during my time at
Bio2Q.
Outside the lab, I enjoy trekking, hiking, and spending time in nature. I look forward to learning,
contributing, and growing as part of the Bio2Q community.”
