Introducing new member of Bio2Q
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Yutaro Kuwashima as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Bio-1 and Bio-2 Core of Bio2Q.
”Last year, I earned a Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. Makoto Arita at Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Keio University, where I studied the dynamics and spatiotemporal interactions of lipid and protein at the plasma membrane. My current interest lies in understanding host-microbe interactions mediated by secreted molecules. As a postdoc at Bio2Q, I will be working in the team of Prof. Makoto Arita and Prof. Toshiro Sato to explore novel microbial metabolites that regulate intestinal functions.
Gut microbiota produces many structurally unique metabolites that serve as signaling molecules and affect human physiology. However, the structure and physiological meanings of the microbial metabolites remain largely unknown. By combining lipidomics and cell biology techniques, I aim to discover new microbial metabolites and investigate its functional roles within the host. At Bio2Q, I look forward to communicating with the experts across various fields toward the research goals.
Since childhood, I have been interested in reading, especially detective novels. With the words of Sherlock Holmes — “It is my business to know what other people do not know.” — in mind, I hope to enjoy the journey to uncover the “dark matter” hidden within our bodies.”
